Dr. Raouf Sa'd Abujaber
(Arabic: رؤوف أبو جابر)

A leading economist in Jordan and a public figure known for his vision on business and economic development, Dr. Raouf Abujaber was born in Salt in 1925 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics from the American University in Beirut, 1946.

After graduation, he established an exports company and, among others, dairy and medical alcohol manufacturing firms. Forty years later, he received his Master’s Degree in History from UJ, 1984, followed by a doctorate degree in modern history from Oxford, 1987.

Dr. Abujaber held several key positions and served on many committees including Vice-Chair of UJ’s Investment Fund Committee, Vice President of the Jordanian Universities Friends Association, member of the Council of Higher Education, Head of the Central Orthodox Council, Head of the Orthodox Society, Head of the Arab Orthodox Charity Society, Vice-President of the Petra Preservation Society, Honorary Vice-President of the Jordanian Turkish Friendship League, member of the Arab Orphan Society, and member of the International Affairs Society.

Dr. Abujaber has been the Honorary Consol of the Netherlands for more than 35 years, former Mayor of the Rotary District in the Middle East, President of the Jordanian Insurance Companies Society, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Investment Company Ltd, and is currently a member of the Board of the Center for Documents and Manuscripts at UJ.

Dr. Abujaber is a lifelong advocate of interfaith dialogue and the author of several books. He received the Jordanian Order of Independence and the Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau Grade of the Commander.
