IF FROGS COULD FLY is a combination of mainstream, satire, magical realism, surrealism, comedy, parody and tragedy. In Part One, Rabbi Mandelson meets Ron Levine, a freelance journalist, at a mall in Miami Beach, during a catastrophic hurricane. Rabbi Mandelson invites the writer to go on an expedition to the rainforest of Peru. The expedition team searches for a 'lost tribe of Israel'. A shaman gets involved, and an ayahuasca ceremony takes place with plenty of visions and hallucinations. The lost tribe of Israel is discovered, but not what you would expect them to be. A calamitous event transpires, which drastically changes the members on the expedition team, locals in Iquitos, Peru, and eventually more than seventy-five percent of the world's population. Part Two of the story takes place 2 years later. The freelance journalist and his wife are back in Miami Beach, then go on a short vacation with another couple (their close friends, the Applebaums) to Upstate New York. They visit Saratoga Springs and Woodstock, NY. While there, they experience a wild game of strip poker, crazy dreams with a High Priestess, High Priest, beautiful tree nymphs, demons, real live Dead Heads, witches, musical turtles, phantom horsemen, talking beavers and astral travelling through the Adirondack Mountains tripping on magic mushrooms. A man is murdered. And Mr. Levine is invited to a birthday party in a haunted house. The two couples from Florida (the Levines and Applebaums) manage to find some rest and relaxation at the hotels they stay at: eating great food, going to yoga classes, having massages at the spa, seeing whirling dervishes perform, and even find time to meditate at a Tibetan-Buddhist monastery. Lots of fun.
