It was even said that the defeated native army carried into the mountains 70,000 man-loads of gold worth at least GBP250,000,000, but no trace of this has ever been found. It is no wonder, therefore, that in the Andes there are always a few men in search of buried treasure, led on by hearsay and legend, and following the vague clues that are passed on from generation to generation.
